Gryphons Season Ends In OT Thriller
The Bantam Gryphons fell just short of qualifying for the OMHA's on Saturday afternoon, falling 3 games to 2 after the Niagara North Stars won 2-1 in overtime. The Gryphons played in front of a tremendous amount of fan support at the West End Rec Centre, and although they carried the play for most of the game, could not get the go ahead goal.

Liam Nolan opened the scoring for the Gryphons in the first period. He converted a beautiful pass from Ryan Elliott who collected the puck in the neutral zone off of a feed from Zac Hatch. The game remained 1-0 until late in the second period when the visitors finally solved goaltender Chris Linton. The teams traded some chances in the third, but it would take the 10 minute sudden death overtime to determine the victor.

It was a disappointing ending to a historical season for this group. This team had the best record in the history of the 2002 AAA age group, finished third in regular season standings and had an undefeated SCTA weekend. They fought a hard, tight checking OMHA semi finals series that only saw 10 total goals between both teams in 5 games, excluding empty nets. Congratulations to a tough and resilient Niagara North Stars team.

The coaching staff would like to thank all of the players, parents and volunteers that made this season such a memorable one. Especially to the players who rallied around each other and represented the Gryphons with class all season long. Thanks for a great season!
