Guelph Gryphons Peewee AA win NSE St. Catherines Early Bird Tournament
The Guelph Gryphon Peewee AA team started the 2018-2019 season strong winning the NSE Early Bird Tournament in St. Catherines, ON on September 7-9th.

A 3-1-0 record in the round robin play placed the Gryphons in 1st place heading into Sunday’s semifinal versus the Kitchener Rangers.  In a close game, the Rangers and Gryphons finished in regulation time tied 2-2 thanks to some stellar saves and goaltending by Noah Kerr, forcing a sudden death 3 on 3 overtime.  Halfway through the overtime, Keenan McGrath scored the overtime winner sending the Gryphons to the tournament final.  In a tight checking game against the Burlington Cougars, Gryphons' Ian Leech scored the lone goal from a perfect pass by Luke Rogerson halfway thru the third period to win the final 1-0.  Goaltender Anthony Fonte was superb in net getting the shutout.  It was an impressive start to the season as the Gryphons scored 20 goals over the course of the tournament.  The Gryphons now resume their preseason preparations before their regular season home opener Sunday September 16th against the Flamborough Sabres.
