Atom AE Sweep Milton To Advance To OMHA Semi Finals
The Guelph Gryphons Atom AE's headed into Tuesday night's Game 3 Quarter final series with a chance to eliminate the Milton Winterhawks and advance to the OMHA Semi Finals for the second consecutive year.   And the Gryphs were up to the task at hand, hustling their way to a 5-2 victory over the equally hard working and aggressive Milton squad.

Both teams came out flying with action going end to end.  Guelph got on the board 6:27 into the contest when Kai Stone turned on the jets and streaked into the Milton zone, beating the Milton defender wide, before going to tape to tape to Peyton Markwood in front who redirected the puck into the net.   Guelph struck again 1:10 later when defenceman Jackson Byard fed a clearing pass up to winger Peyton Smith.  Smith entered the Milton zone and ripped a wrist shot off the goalie's glove and into the net.  The Gryphies carried a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

Milton refused to quit and cut the Guelph lead in half 8:06 into the second period.  However 2:03 later, Peyton Smith walked in off the half boards and spotted Kenny Beynon in front.   Smith quickly zipped a pass at Beynon, and with his stick on the ice, Beynon redirected the puck into the net to restore Guelph's two goal lead.  Guelph added to its lead with 9 seconds remaining in the period when Beynon fed Adrian Tersigni in front and Tersigni slammed it home to make the score 4-1 after two periods of play.

Milton poured on the pressure and made the score 4-2 with 9:21 remaining.   Guelph put the game on ice with 2:09 left when sustained pressure in the Milton zone resulted in Kai Stone feeding Nolan Lodder in front and Lodder redirected the puck behind the Milton goalie to make the final 5-2 and give the Gryphons the series win.

Guelph is now making a return trip to the OMHA Semi Finals and will face either the Essex Ravens or the New Hamburg Huskies.  Essex currently leads the Quarter Final Series two games to none.
