GMHA – Updates: AGM Rescheduled & More Updates
Below are several updates on the AGM, Refunds, Registration, and the 2021-22 Season.

AGM

Please note, the AGM date had to be moved from June 17, 2021 to July 14, 2021. If you have already registered for the AGM, your registration will be carried over. If you wish to register for the AGM, you can do so by following this link: 2020-21 GMHA AGM Registration

However, on June 17, 2021, we will be hosting a Town Hall meeting where our President, David Christiansen will review all the proposed By-Law changes that the board will be bringing forward to the membership at the AGM. We will review the current By-Laws, the proposed changes, and provide context as to why these changes are being brought forward. This is your opportunity as a GMHA Member to understand and ask questions about the proposed changes. You can join the discussion here: GMHA AGM – Town Hall Meeting at 7PM on June 17, 2021.

More details will be provided at least 10 days prior to the AGM. Please keep an eye on the website and your emails for that information.

A Message from GMHA President: David Christiansen as the GMHA Board of Directors Representative:

Please review the Proposed By-Law Changes for AGM. These are the amendments to our current by-laws approved by the Board of Directors at the recent May meeting.  A vote on formally adopting the changes will take place at the Annual General Meeting, now scheduled for July 14th, 2021

The intent of these changes is to update the governance rules of the Association to make them more relevant to current realities, provide continuity, improve transparency and eliminate loop-holes and inconsistencies.

I will be hosting a town-hall for members on June 17th to provide context and reasoning for each of these changes as well as take questions so you are better able to make a decision when voting on these at the Annual General Meeting.  Please note that it will not be possible to field individual questions on these changes via email, so attendance at the town hall is encouraged.

Refunds

The refund process has been an extremely challenging process.  As indicated in our Refund Update posted on the website, given the manual process needed to complete this along with all the Covid-19 protocols and safety measures, we were once again delayed. But we are happy to report that all cheques have been printed and signed and they will be making their way to you by mail soon!  A huge THANK YOU to our association accountant Rhonda Gatto for the super-human effort and large time commitment she put into this project.

Registration

Currently, the GMHA Board is working on the exact status of registration and hopes to have an update in the coming weeks. We will be looking to host another Town Hall meeting, that will allow for people to join and learn about the decisions regarding registration and how these decisions were made. Please stay tuned for the exact date of that Town Hall meeting along with the registration launch date and prices.

Hockey Canada has updated the registration system, so when you do eventually login, you will see an updated registration platform. This platform was designed to enhance the user experience. It is simplified and much easier to use. You will need to login using your current email that you would have had an account under and create a new profile from there. We will provide video tutorials to review ahead of time.

2021-22 Season

Although there are still many uncertainties regarding the 2021-22 season, we are hoping with the decreasing numbers of Covid-19 cases and the increasing vaccination rates, that we will be able to have a somewhat “normal” year. There are still many variables to consider, and we ask that everyone be patient and understanding as things may change from one day to the next.

Currently, we are looking at the potential to host Tryouts for REP/ADP starting September 10, 2021 for AAA. Tryouts would run for 7 days at each level (7 days for AAA, 7 days for AA, etc.), and teams would hit the ice shortly after final selections with a target of having the season officially begin towards the middle of October. Select Tryouts would likely occur throughout October.

House League, SD1, 2, 3, & Skating School programs are likely to begin in October.

Hitting Clinics for the U14 & U15 groups are likely to occur the week of Labour Day.

Below are two charts that identify the different dates relevant to the REP/ADP Program for Tryouts or Evaluation Skates:
