U16BB Tri County Champions!!!
The U16BB Guelph Gryphons are Tri County Champions!!
After finishing the regular season in first place with a record of 28-2-2 and going undefeated (6-0) in the round robin playoffs we played West Niagara in the semi finals. After a hard fought game (we had to kill off a 6min penalty with 7:47 to go in the 3rd) we came out on top 2-0, advancing us to the finals vs. Milton.
The boys were buzzin, they were dialed and we packed the barn - I've never seen the West End so full and so loud! A huge thank you to all the fans (family and friends and grandparents) that came out. A special first bump to all the 2007's in attendance who were just fired up from start to finish and made the experience a memorable one! Thank you!! You boys are beauties!!
The stage was set - First place vs. Second place.....Guelph vs. Milton
At 9:55 of the first period while on the power play, Seba Lajoie made a beauty pass to Jesse Smith who buried the first goal of the game! 1-0 Guelph!
A few minutes later while on the power play Milton scored to tie it up 1-1.
2:22 left in first period, again on the power play Chris Kelly was just mucking it up in front of the net, and out battled the Milton D to bury it. 2-1 Guelph. This turned out to be the GWG!!!
From there we didn't give up any more quality scoring chances against us and and went on to win 6-1!!! Mitchell Doern scored to make it 3-1 at the end of the first period. Our Captain Griffen Burkhart had 2 goals in the 2nd period and Kailen Roberston with 1 goal in the 3rd.
Jake Heins was a wall in net all year and showed it again to backstop us to victory!!
We couldn't be more proud of these fine young men for what they have accomplished so far....but the jobs not finished. We want the Red Hats.
We are headed to the OMHA's March 31-April 2 in Halton - Come cheer on the U16 BB Guelph Gryphons!
