Atom AE Sweep Huskies For A Return Trip To OMHA Finals
For the second consecutive season the Gryphon Atom AE's are off to the OMHA Finals after a semi final sweep over the New Hamburg Huskies.   The Gryphons played one of their most complete games of the season on Sunday night as they defeated the Huskies 6-0 in Game 3.

Guelph came out of the gate determined and opened the scoring 6:33 into the opening frame.  Off the draw, centreman Adrian Tersigni worked the puck over to winger Kenny Beynon and Beynon slid it back to defenseman Chace Roffel.  Roffel rifled the puck home to open the scoring and the 1-0 lead held at the first intermission.

Guelph added to their lead 40 seconds into the second period when Milan Wilson directed a shot on goal and then crashed the net to bang in his own rebound for a gritty, hardworking goal.   The score stood 2-0 after two periods of play.

5:17 into the third, speedy winger Peyton Smith drove wide and passed across the crease and the puck deflected behind the New Hamburg goalie to increase the lead to 3-0.  Smith connected again just over a minute later to increase the lead to 4-0 with Kenny Beynon picking up the assist.   Smith then completed his hat trick with 5:15 left as New Hamburg pulled its goalie while on the powerplay.  Smith skated the puck out of danger and then slid the disk into the open cage to make the score 5-0.  Caleb Davision (Connor Laskowski) completed the scoring with ten seconds remaining to make the final 6-0 to kick off the celebrations as the "Crazy Mom Brigade"   wildly cheered the kids off the ice.

Max Heroux continued his stellar playoffs and picked up the shutout between the pipes.

The Gryphons will now enjoy a 13 day break as they await a winner in the Barrie - North Durham series.  Barrie, who defeated the Gryphons in last year's final, currently lead their series 2 games to none after a convincing 14-0 victory in Game 2.
