Playoffs Begin for Tyke A Gryphons
The playoffs got under way this weekend for the Tyke A Jr. Gryphons.

On Saturday, the Gryphons opened their second season against the league’s first place team from Halton Hills. After a sluggish start, Guelph found their legs and opened the scoring when Auguste T. scored on a Gryphon powerplay midway through the first period.

The talented Thunder team replied in the second period to tie the game at one. However, the Gryphons were not to be denied on this day. Their focus and work ethic remained strong throughout the game, and their persistence paid off. With 24 seconds remaining in the game, Luca R found the back of the Thunder net and the Gryphons hung on for a 2 – 1 victory.

Wyatt M was a steady presence on the defensive end of the ice, while Nate M demonstrated his versatility by filling in on defence. Alex C submitted a strong performance on the wing while the goaltending tandem of Finn P. and Tyson MB. made several big saves at key moments of the game.

On Sunday, the Tyke A Gryphons travelled to Orangeville for a date with the Flyers. The Gryphons found the net early and never looked back on their way to a 5 – 1 victory. Guelph’s offence was a balanced attack with five goals coming from five different players - Lucas S, Luca R, Sawyer S, Auguste T and Nicco S. Assists were also awarded to Gage T, Nate M, Luca R.

Ryan M and Evan P turned in impressive performances while playing both defence and forward, and Greg F was strong and reliable in all areas of the ice as well.

With these wins Guelph’s Tyke A Gryphons have emerged out of the playoff gates with a 2 – 0 record. The Gryphons look to continue their fine play next weekend when they take on Garden City and Niagara Falls.
