Gryphons Impress at the Cujo Invitational
Guelph’s Tyke A Gryphons participated in the Cujo Invitaional tournament this past weekend. This prestigious tourney brings together 32 Tyke teams from across the province for 5 games of incredible competition.

The Gryphons began the tournament by beating the host Newmarket Redmen by a score of 4 – 1. Auguste T (2), Nicco S and Ryan M tallied for the Gryphons while Wyatt M and Nathan M provided some rock-solid defense.

Next up for the Gryphs was a date with the Barrie Jr. Colts. The Gryphons defeated the Colts by another 4 – 1 margin. Nicco S accounted for all the Gryphon goals while Jax S was credited with two assists. Greg F, Evan P and Tyson D were excellent with their quick puck movement and passing.

The Gryphons continued their impressive play against the Vaughn Rangers, earning a decisive 5 – 0 victory. Finn P and Tyson MB provided some inspirational goaltending while Alex C and Sawyer S played strong two-way games. Goal scorers were Nicco S (2), Auguste T, Greg F and Luca R.

Like all good things, the incredible roll that the Gryphons found themselves on came to an end when they took on the Weston Dodgers. Weston challenged the Gryphons in all areas of the game, and the Gryphons were defeated by a 5 – 1 score. Despite the loss, the result was noteworthy on account of the fact that the Gryphons were the first team in the tournament to hold the Dodgers to under 9 goals, and were also the first team to score a goal against them.

The loss sent the Gryphons to the Platinum Consolation championship on Sunday afternoon where they faced the Kitchener Jr, Rangers. In what was a very evenly matched game, the Gryphons dropped a 2 – 1 decision. Gage T was the Gryphon goal scorer and Jamie N was a force on defense. Lucas S continues to impress with his great passing and speed.

As Platinum Consolation Finalists, the Gryphons earned a 4th place finish in this very challenging tournament. This is an accomplishment that these Gryphons should be very proud of.

The Tyke A Gryphons return to TriCounty playoff action on Tuesday when they travel to Oakville to take on the Rangers.
