The Jr. Gryphons Win Silver at the St. Thomas Boston Pizza Tournament!!
The Tyke B Jr. Gryphons participated in the St. Thomas Boston Pizza Tournament this past weekend ending up 1st in their pool and advancing to championship game losing out to the Port Perry Predators 3-1 but winning the silver medal!!!

On Friday morning the Tyke B Jr. Gryphons started the tournament with a shut out winning 2-0 against Ingersol Burtterworths. The Gryphon's 1st goal of the game was scored by Avery Smith off a breakaway with a great wrist shot just inside the post. Keeping the momentum going, the Gryphons were able to score their 2nd goal of the game in the 3rd period scored by Tyler Kelly off another breakaway and shooting the puck off his back-hand into the top right corner. The game ended with a 2-0 win!! Great battles were won by our forward lines to help open up the gaps for a number of breakaway attempts made by Colin Chate, Nick Clayton, Parker White and Andrew Brown. The Gryphon defence played by Aiden Wamdoldt, Royce Lin, Banin Howden, Jonathan Berthiaume, Austyn Lamorea and Jake Annis were all over the opposition clearing the puck out of their end and passing up for scoring opportunities. Gryphon goalies Trenton Goode and Anderson Mau made great saves which resulted in the first shut out of the tournament!

The Gryphons continued their tournament play losing their 2nd game 0-5 to Halton Hills Thunder and also losing their 3rd game 0-5 to Woodstock. Down but not out, the Gryphons were ready to take on their rivals the Center Wellington Fusion in the 4th game of the tournament winning 2-0!!! It was an exciting game watching both teams battle hard to score the 1st goal of the game but with a score of 0-0 going into the 3rd period it was a nail biter. With a great pass, Avery Smith got the 1st goal of the game assisted by Parker White. The 2nd goal of the game was scored by Tyler Kelly after stealing the puck off a fore-check shooting through the five-hole. The Fusion pulled their goalie in the last 2 minutes of the 3rd period but could not get past our strong defence. The game ended 2-0 with another shut out for the Gryphons! Anderson Mau and Trenton Goode were on fire saving a number of great shots on net both determined to get their 2nd shut out of the tournament. Ayden Lamorea, Nash Willsie and Cole Gibson all had a number of impressive shots on net!!

The Gryphons ended up landing 1st in their division. The championship game was scheduled for today at 11:00am against the Port Perry Predators who ended up 2nd in the division. Both teams were pumped up ready to play for the gold! In the first period the Gryphons had a number of great shots on net but were not able to score the 1st goal of the game allowing the Predators to score off an unlucky bounce. Going into the 2nd period with a 1-0 deficit, the Gryphons were able to score battling in front of the net allowing Colin Chate to squeeze past the goalie for the goal. Nash Willsie and Tyler Kelly were credited for the assists. Unfortunately the Predators scored 2 more goals bringing the score to 3-1 going into the 3rd. The 3rd period started off with the Gryphons determined to score and win the championship game. Although the Gryphons stepped up the paced battling, keeping the puck out of their end and into the opposition's end, winning face-offs and having a number of great shots on net, they were unable to to defeat the Port Perry Predators losing 3-1 but winning the silver medal!!!

The Tyke B Gryphons should be very proud of their accomplishment this weekend. Congratulations boys!!!
