A Great Fight To The Finish For The Novice A Jr. Gryphons At Power Play!
Today the Novice A Jr. Gryphons ended strong at the Guelph Power Play Tournament just finishing out of the semi finals.

It was a great day today for the Novice A Jr. Gryphons as they fought back from two losses on Friday to win their last two games today finishing only a fraction of a point out of the semi finals.

On Friday the Novice A Gryphons started their tournament play with a 7-1 loss to the Amhertburg Stars. The first period was strong for both teams as the Gryphons only allowed 1 goal in the period. The 2nd period the Gryphons could not keep the Stars out of their end allowing another 4 goals for the Stars. Tyler Kelly scored an unassisted goal for the Gryphons ending the 2nd period with the Stars up 5-1. The Stars scored another 2 more goals in the 3rd ending the game with a 7-1 loss.

Tournament play continued for the Novice A Gryphons as they played the Erie Northshore Storm Friday afternoon losing 5-1. The Gryphons allowed the opposition to score 2 goals in the 1st and another 3 goals in the 2nd period. Reid McDonald scored the Gryphon goal assisted by Jonathan Berthianume and Royce Lin.

A new day and a new team.......the Novice A Jr. Gryphons came back strong today winning their 1st game of the day 5-2 against the Cambridge Hawks. The Gryphons scored the first goal of the game scored by Tyler Kelly assisted by Jonathan Berthiaume and Alex Chappel. The Hawks fought back scoring their first goal of the game ending the period in a 1-1 tie. As the 2nd period started, it wasn't long before the Gryphons scored their second goal of the game by Tyler Kelly assisted by Jake Annis and Andrew Brown. Cole Gibson scored the Gryphon 3rd goal assisted by Ayden Lamorea and Jaxson Shields. With a Gryphon 3-1 lead going into the 3rd, the Gryphons battled hard to keep the lead. With only a few mins left in the 3rd the Hawks pulled their goalie. With an empty net, Austyn Lamorea and Andrew Brown scored 2 more goals for the Gryphons assisted by Nick Clayton and Jamie Newton. The game ended with a 5-2 win for the Gryphons! Both Gryphon goalies; Trenton Goode and Anderson Mau made a number of remarkable saves that had the fans in the stands on their feet as they brought home the win!!!

The Gryphons keep the pressure on as they won their 2nd game of the day winning 5-1 against the Clarington Toros. It only took a few mins into the 1st period for the Gryphons to score the first goal of the game scored by Tyler Kelly assisted by Banin Howden. The goals kept coming as the Gryphons scored the 2nd goal of the game scored by Reid McDonald unassisted. The 1st period ended with the Gryphons leading 2-0 going into the 2nd. There were great battles won, impressive passing, back-checking and a number of great shots on net that kept the 2nd period in favour for the Gryphons but the score at the end of the 2nd still had the Gryphons up 2-0. The 3rd period started with an unlucky goal for the opposition but the Gryphons kept the pressure on as Tyler Kelly scored 2 more goals giving him a "hat trick" assisted by Jake Annis and Austyn Lamorea. With only mins left in the 3rd, Aiden Wamboldt scored from the blue line bringing the score to 5-1 and the win for the Gryphons.

As tournament play continued, the Gryphons waited to hear if they had made it to the semi-finals on Sunday. Unfortunately, with less than 1 point in the standings, the Gryphons finished just out of semi-final play.

Although the Novice A Gryphons did not move on, they came back strong to impress their coaches, parents and fans!!!!

The Novice A Jr. Gryphons look forward to their next regular season play when they host the Brampton 45's this coming Friday.
