Minor Atom AE Close Out Round Robin With Loss
The Minor Atom AE Gryphons travelled to Elmira on Thursday for Game 8 of their Round Robin Qualifier.   The Gryphons came out flat and a determined Woolwich squad, looking to avenge their 12-3 defeat to Guelph on February 3,  dominated the the Gryphons on route to a 5-3 victory for the Wildcats.

Woolwich jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with goals 2:54 and 3:30 into the contest. 11 seconds after Woolwich's second goal,  Matthew Mainprize cashed in on a set up from Adrian Tersigni to cut the deficit in half.  However,  Woolwich followed up with two more goals in the last 1:50 of the period to take a 4-1 lead into the intermission.

Guelph responded with the only goal of the second period when Milan Wilson ripped a shot from slot on a pass out from Matthew Mainprize.  The score stood 4-2 after two periods of play.

With 3:03 remaining in the game,  Woolwich added their fifth tally of the contest to put the game out of reach.   Guelph added one more with the goalie pulled (Matthew Mainprize from Peyton Markwood and Peter Schlitt) to make the final 5-3.

The Gryphons ended the round robin with a 7-1 record, good enough to finish in 1st place in their division.   They now advance to the OMHA  quarterfinals to face the Milton Winterhawks.   The series promises to be a low scoring, tight checking affair as three games involving the two teams during the season all ended up in ties.  Game 1 takes place this Monday night at Centennial Arena.
