The Atom Select Gryphons had a quick turnaround playing
their second game in three nights travelling to Mountainside Recreation Centre
to play a very good Burlington team.
The Gryphons and Bulldogs played to a balanced first period with both teams trading a couple of half chances but neither team could capitalize and the period ended 0-0.
The home Bulldogs were able to get on the scoreboard about half way through the second period, when a Burlington forward picked up the puck off the side boards skated above the hash marks and fired a wrist shot that “had eyes” and snuck by Guelph goalie Khari Eyers who was screened on the play. Shortly after, Burlington with the man advantage was able to find a player open in the slot, who made no mistake in potting the second goal of the game to make it 2-0 Bulldogs.
Guelph goalie Khari Eyers played a tremendous game and kept the Gryphons in it as they pressed forward to generate offence. While Guelph had their fair share of chances, they weren’t able to find the magic that would result in a goal. The 3rd period ended scoreless and the final horn sounded 2-0 in favour of the Bulldogs.
The Gryphons continued to show their grit and hustle all night fighting off several penalties and creating their own chances.
