Minor Peewee AA Victorious In OMHA Opener
The Guelph Gryphon Minor Peewee AA's travelled to Orangeville on Saturday afternoon for the opening of their OMHA Qualifying Round.   In a back and forth game, the Gryphons came home with a 4-1 victory to kick the playoffs off in the right direction.

Guelph opened the scoring with 1:32 left in the first period.  Koen Smith worked the puck back to the point where Zac Conroy ripped a wrist shot.   Tyler Chadwick set up in front of the Orangeville net and quickly deposited Conroy's rebound into the back of the net to give the Gryphons a 1-0 lead after one period of play.

Orangeville tied the score on a short handed breakaway 4:27 into the second and the score remained 1-1 after two periods of play.

Ryder Burns scored the game winner 2:03 into the third when he streaked in and lifted a backhander over the sprawled Flyer goalie for a 2-1 Guelph lead.   Noah Savery drew an assist on the play.  Guelph added some insurance with 7:15 remaining.  While shorthanded, Nathan Schlitt controlled the puck down low in the Orangeville zone and snapped a shot on goal.  Koen Smith redirected the shot into the net with his body and Guelph had a two goal lead.   Guelph then added an empty netter with 1:56 remaining when Tyler Chadwick tracked down a Carden Hickman-Rogers clearing shot and slid it into the open cage for a 4-1 Guelph victory.

Parker Shany earned the victory in between the pipes.

Guelph (1-0-0) return to action Monday evening when they host Oakville Blue.
