Minor Peewee AA's Rally For Win In Game 1
The Guelph Gryphons Minor Peewee AA traveled to Burlington on Friday night for Game 1 of their OMHA Quarter Final series against Burlington Eagles Gold. In a physical match up, the Gryphons rallied for three goals in the third period to upset the Eagles 3-2 to take a 1-0 series lead.
The first period was tight checking with few opportunities for either team. However, Burlington opened the scoring on the power play with 5 seconds remaining in the period to take a 1-0 lead.
Burlington scored the lone goal of the second period at the 12:26 mark to take a 2-0 lead into intermission.
Cue the Gryphon comeback.
The Gryphons got on board 32 seconds into the period when Tanner Bothwell took the puck hard to the net and Olan Norton left unattended in front scooped up the rebound and slid it into the open cage to cut the Burlington lead in half. Zac Conroy also assisted on the play. 4:11 later while on the powerplay, the Gryphons tied the game with Tyler Chadwick putting home a rebound off a Matthew Stam scoring chance. Assist on the play also went to defenseman Nolan Chabot. Then with 6:46 remaining, while Guelph was on another powerplay, Olan Norton took a pass from Andrew McMillan and walked off the side boards and snapped a shot over the goalie's shoulder for the game winner. The Gryphons, led by netminder Parker Shany, played shutdown defense the rest of the way to bring home the victory.
Game 2 in the 6 point series takes place Monday night in Guelph.
