GRYPHONS BANTAM A IRISH CUP CHAMPIONS!!!
On Thursday Nov 1st the Guelph Gryphons Bantam A team headed off on the long, rainy drive to South Bend, Indiana to compete in the Irish Cup Tournament against A and AA teams.

Friday morning, with continued rain, the Gryphons struggled to find their confidence against the Richmond Hill Stars A team. Logan Maggiolo stood tall in net for the Gryphons and ensured Friday’s game ended in a 1-1 draw. On Saturday the Gryphons challenges continued against the Vipers AA & Skokie Flyers AA teams. The Gryphons lost both games 1-2 and 1-4 respectively. This ended the round robin play and relegated the disappointed Gryphons Bantam A team into the tier II championship bracket for Sunday morning’s semi-final game. The Gryphons were set to face a tough, high-speed Highland Park Falcon A team. The Falcon’s had competed to a three-way tie in their round robin grouping against the London Mustang A & Oshawa General AA teams. The Falcon’s were relegated to the tier II championship bracket due to a coin toss.

With Sunday morning’s clear skies the Gryphons woke ready for the challenge of the Falcon’s fire power. The Gryphons displayed incredible discipline and focus playing their defensive game with precision. Goaltending was top notch with Arthur Currier keeping the team in a 1-1 draw until the 3rd  period. In the 3rd period, the Gryphons hit the back of the net to move into the lead with a 2-1 score. From that point on the Gryphons defensive discipline kept the lead and put the Gryphons into the Championship finals against the Skokie Flyers AA team.

Under the lights of the famous Notre Dame Compton Arena’s Lefty rink, the Bantam A team were set for a rematch against the Flyers who had beaten the Gryphons 4-1 in round robin play. On this afternoon, the Gryphons came together, worked as a team, and claimed the Irish Cup Championship title with a convincing 5-2 win!!
