Atom AE Go 1-2-1 At Milton Tourney
The Gryphon Atom AE travelled to Milton September 14th - 16th for their first tournament of the year.   The Gryphons finished with a 1-2-1 record and placed 6th in the nine team division.

The Gryphons faced off with the eventual tournament finalist Waterloo Wolves Friday morning and came out on the wrong end of a 2-0 score.  Waterloo scored once in the first, once in the second and held the Gryphons in check during the third period to take home the victory.

Friday afternoon the Gryphons earned a 2-1 victory over the Woolwich Wildcats.  After a scoreless first period,  Guelph took the lead 6:32 into the second period when Peyton Smith, off to the side of the net, scooped up a rebound and lifted it over the Woolwich goalie for a 1-0 lead.   Milan Wilson and Peyton Markwood drew assists on the play.  Woolwich tied the game up two minutes later and the score stood 1-1 after two periods of play.

Guelph potted the winner just 54 seconds into the third when Kenny Beynon slipped the puck over to Milan Wilson who moved around the Woolwich goalie and put it home.   Max Heroux picked up the win between the pipes.

Saturday afternoon,  four power play goals was the difference as the eventual tournament Champions Milton Winterhawks defeated the Gryphons by a 4-0 score.   Guelph dominated the early stages of the game before a steady stream to the penalty box put them on their heels and Milton took control of the game and never relinquished it.  Milton led 1-0 after the first, increased their lead to 3-0 after the second, and then added an insurance marker in the third for the victory.

Guelph saved their best effort of the tournament for their fourth game on Sunday morning against the Georgina Blaze.   Finally showing signs of playing as a team, the Gryphons controlled the game with smart passing and unselfish play.  The 1-1 final score was not an indication of Guelph's performance.   Guelph lone goal came on a slick three man passing play in the second period.   Milan Wilson picked up the puck in his own zone and made a smart outlet pass to a streaking Aidran Tersigni.  Tersigni quickly moved the puck cross ice to Caleb Davison who rifled a wrist shot from the top of the circles between the goalie's legs.

The Gryphons closed out the exhibition season with a 3-2-2 record and now look forward to their home opener on Thursday September 20th against the Flamborough Sabres.
