Atom AE Pick Up Win In Home Opener
The Gryphon Atom AE's kicked off their 2018-2019 Tri County regular season with a 4-1 victory over the Flamborough Sabres on Thursday evening.

The Gryphons struck right away to jump out to an early lead.   29 seconds into the contest,  Caleb Davidson corralled a loose puck and spun and fired a quick shot on goal.   The puck dribbled towards the goal line where Connor Laskowski pushed it into the net to give the hometown team an early 1-0 lead.   The first period ended with Guelph holding on to their one goal margin.

1:07 into the second period, Peter Schlitt dumped the puck into the Flamborough corner where Caleb Davison battled for possession and quickly fired a hard pass towards the Sabres net.  Chase Roffel, with his stick on the ice, deflected the pass between the surprised goalies pads and the Gryphs led 2-0.   Two minutes later,  Guelph struck again when Peter Schlitt attempted a shot on goal that was redirected onto the stick of Adrian Tersigni.  Tersigni's drive was stopped but Kai Stone drove hard to the net to smack in the rebound and make the score 3-0.  Flamborough got on the board 5:20 into the period after some sustained pressure in the Guelph zone and the score stood 3-1 after two periods of play.

Flamborough seemed to control the play in the third with strong physical pressure on the puck but were held off the scoresheet.   Then with 1:14 remaining and the Flamborough goalie pulled, Nolan Lodder poked a loose puck onto the stick of Peyton Smith in the neutral zone who walked in and deposited the disk into the empty net for a 4-1 Guelph victory.

Fraser Litchfield picked up the victory between the pipes.

The Gryphons (1-0-0) will now return to practice for a week before facing off against the Centre Wellington Fusion next Thursday night.
