Atom AE's Pick Up Win In Road Opener
The Gryphon Atom AE's traveled to Elmira on Friday night for their first road game of the regular season.   Quick feet and quick passing led to a 36-10 margin in shots as the Gryphons peppered the Woolwich net on their way to a 4-1 victory.

The Gryphons got on the board 6:26 into the opening frame.   Nolan Lodder, working the puck behind the Woolwich net spotted Connor Laskowski in front.  Lodder threaded the puck to Laskowski who drove a shot on net that was turned aside but Caleb Davison bulldozed his way to the rebound and whacked it home for a 1-0 Guelph lead.   Later in the same shift,  Lodder and Laskowski raced down the ice on a 2 on 1 break.  Lodder smartly faked the Woolwich defense and slid the puck cross crease to a waiting Laskowski who buried the puck in the open net.   The first period ended with the Gryphs out front 2-0.

Woolwich cut the lead in half 4:12 into the second period but the Gryphons went on the power play with 3:11 left in the period.  In the span of twelve seconds, Nolan Lodder won the draw back to defenseman Peter Schlitt who faked shot and went D to D to his partner Jackson Byard.  Byard drove a shot on net and Caleb Davison shovelled in the rebound to restore the Gryphon two goal lead.   The second period ended with Guelph in the lead 3-1.

The Gryphons ran into some penalty trouble in the third but with 22.6 seconds left, Nolan Lodder and Caleb Davison broke down the ice on a 2 on 1.  This time it was Lodder who ended up burying the biscuit and the final score was Guelph winning 4-1.

Fraser Litchfield was solid in the Guelph nets when called upon to pick up the win.

The Gryphons (3-0-0) will now enjoy the weekend off before facing a tough early season test when they travel to Oakville Wednesday evening to square off with the Rangers.
