Atom AE's Split Back To Back Games
The Guelph Gryphon Atom AE's split back to back games this week.  After dropping a 2-1 decision to the Oakville Rangers on Wednesday, the Gryphons responded with a 4-1 victory over the Caledon Hawks on Thursday night.

In Oakville,  the Gryphons battled through a scoreless first period.  The Rangers got on the board 3:34 into the second when a Ranger forward broke loose and ripped a shot into the top corner of the net for 1-0 lead.  Two minutes later, the Gryphs tied it.  Peyton Markwood ripped a shot from the point that was stopped but Adrian Tersigni fought for the rebound and backhanded the puck over the sprawling Rangers goalie to tie the score 1-1.  The Rangers scored the game winner with 1:12 left in the second when a third shot off a goalmouth scramble found its way to the back of the net for the eventual Oakville victory.

On Thursday night at Centennial Arena,  the Gryphons returned to their winning ways with a well earned 5-2 victory.  3:02 into the opening period the Gryphs started the scoring when Caleb Davison scooped up a rebound in front and drove it home for a 1-0 lead.  The Gryphons would carry that 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Four minutes into the second, the Gryphons struck again as Adrian Tersigni pushed the puck across the line off a battle in front.  Kenny Beynon and Peyton Smith drew assists on the play.  With 1:58 remaining in the period, Guelph scored the prettiest goal of the night.  Forward Oliver Fletcher spotted defenseman Jackson Byard open at the point and moved the puck back.  Byard quickly moved the puck cross ice to his defense partner Cian Duffy.  Duffy ripped a shot on net and Milan Wilson quickly snapped in the rebound for 3-0 Guelph lead after two periods of play.

8:22 into the third period, Guelph struck again as Peyton Markwood finally bulged the twine after numerous chances as Guelph buzzed the Caledon zone.  Hardwork by linemates Nolan Lodder and Conner Laskowski drew assists on the goal.  36 seconds later,  Milan Wilson took a pass from Cian Duffy and scooted down the boards entering the Caledon zone before cutting to the net and ripping a shot bar down for 5-0 Guelph lead.   Two Caledon goals in the final moments of the game after some sloppy Guelph play made the final 5-2 for the home town Gryphons.

Guelph (4-1-0) return to action on Sunday afternoon when they host the Erin Hillsburgh Devils.  Game time is 3:30 at WERC.
