The Guelph
Gryphon Atom AE’s hosted the Woolwich Wildcats on Thursday evening in their
last game before the Christmas break.
The Gryphons used a quick start to build an early lead and cruised to a
6-1 victory over the hometown crowd.
The Gryphons
got on the board just 2:05 into the contest as Kenny Beynon slapped in a
rebound off a Milan Wilson shot. Peyton
Smith also drew an assist on the play.
At the 4:48 mark, Beynon tallied his second of the contest, this time
off a point shot from Nate Taylor. The
Gryphons continued to pour on the pressure and with 3:53 remaining, Kai Stone’s
centering pass from the side of the net deflected by the Woolwich goalie to
give Guelph a three goal lead. The score
stood 3-0 after one period of play.
After a
scoreless second period, Woolwich got on the board just 14 seconds into the
third period. The Gryphons answered back
5:53 into the third as Kenny Beynon fed Peyton Smith with a pass in the neutral
zone and Smith walked in a ripped a wrist shot from the top of the circles past
the Wildcat goalie to make the score 4-1.
Just eleven seconds later the Gryphons struck again as defenseman Oliver
Fletcher retrieved the puck in the Woolwich corner and fed a gorgeous pass out
front to Milan Wilson, who one-timed a blast into the open corner. Guelph completed the scoring with 41 seconds
remaining as Kai Stone dumped the puck down the ice while killing a penalty and
then outraced the Woolwich defenseman for the puck and zipped it home to make
the final 6-1.
Max Heroux
picked up the win in the Gryphons net combined with some flawless relief work by
call up Coley The Goalie McQueen.
The Gryphons
(22-1-3) now enjoy a much deserved two week break before returning to action on
Thursday January 3.
Merry Christmas
to all from Guelph Atom AE!
