Big Win in Acton
The first half of the game saw a tight battle against a bigger Acton squad. Griswold got us off to a quick start 2 and a half minutes in, only to see Acton answer back quickly. This played out the same way to start the 2nd period when Mitchell went high on the Acton goalie, then Acton came right back to tie it.
About halfway through the 2nd period the line of Amidon, Griswold, and Marshall took over, scoring 3 goals in 4 and a half minutes to pull ahead. The Chargers kept fighting back and got another goal late in the period, only to be outdone by the GAM line again with a very late goal, giving the Gryphs a more comfortable 6-3 lead after 2.
A 3rd period explosion of 6 straight goals put the game out of reach. 2 Szabo goals bookended scores by May, Marshall, Griswold, and Mitchell. The Chargers snuck one by Sheridan late.
The speed and teamwork of the GAM line was too much for Acton. They combined for 6 goals and 7 assists.
Overall speed, teamwork, defensive pressure, and solid goaltending were the keys to success. Let's see the boys build on this for their next game against Kitchener in our home opener.
