Gryphons Win 2nd Straight vs Burlington, Improve to 6-6 on the Season
Merry Christmas to all, and our Gryphons a good fight!

The Peewee Select Gryphons returned to action on the road in Burlington following the Christmas Break and in search of their 2nd straight win and improvement on their season record

Sheridan got the start in this post Christmas match up and was up to the task immediately following the puck drop.

Both the Cougars and Gryphons seemed equally matched to kick off this game with some spirited back and forth action.  But it was Griswold who finally tallied the first goal with 3:48 left in the 1st.  That seemed to open the offensive flood gates for the Gryphons with Thomson snipping a top shelf goal on a beauty feed from May.  On the next ensuing face off, the Gryphons won the draw and Doern was off to the races scoring the 3rd Gryphon goal (and 3rd goal in less than a minute).

With seconds remaining in the 1st period, The Cougars and Gryphons exchanged goals and the 1st frame ended 4-1 in favor of the Gryphons.  That's 5 goals in the final 4 minutes of the period and a sure sign of things to come.

The 2nd period started the same as the 1st with Griswold tallying his 2nd of the game for a 5-1 Gryphon lead.  But the Cougars weren't backing down as they picked up the physical play crashing the Guelph net and closing the gap to 5-2 half way through the 2nd.

As the 2nd period ran down, the specials teams were put to the test as the Gryphons and Cougars both needed to kills some tripping penalties and the period ended with a Guelph 6-2 Guelph lead thanks to Griswold's 3rd goal of the game (from Amidon).

The Cougars were the first to strike in the 3rd narrowing the gap as a screened shot managed to beat Sheridan (6-3).  But Bradshaw, stormed right back jumping in on the offensive drive, feeding May for a beauty top shelf score and a 7-3 Gryphon lead with 11:44 left in the 3rd.

Guelph looked to shut the door on the Cougars following a minor penalty drawn by Marshall, however, it was the Cougars who surprised the Gryphons after neutral zone turnover and short handed goal (7-4).

The back and forth scoring continued as the period ran down seeing Marshall dazzle with the toe drag deek followed by a Cougars Tip in but the Gryphons would not be denied in this post Christmas bout as they best the Burlington Cougars 8-5 and improve to 6 and 6 on the season .

Come check our your Gryphons as they look to improve on their 2 game winning streak hosting Woodstock Sunday December 30th at the West End Community Centre at 5pm.

GO GRYPHONS!
