Peewee AA Open Season With Victory
The Guelph Gryphon Peewee AA’s opened their 2019-2020 Tri County season on Friday night at West End by hosting the Flamborough-Dundas Sabres.   The Gryphons used a quick start to pave the wave to a 6-0 victory.

Guelph came out of the gates strong in the first period and used hard checking and quick passing to outshoot the visiting Sabres 10-0 in the opening period.   The Gryphons got on the board 3:31 into the frame as Tanner Bothwell banged home the rebound off a Nathan Boyle shot.   The Gryphs then added to their lead 4:13 later when Nolan Chabot fed Evan VanEykeren with a pass in the neutral zone and VanEykeren beat the Sabres defenseman before zipping a quick shot past the Flamborough goaltender.   The score stood 2-0 in favour of Guelph after one period of play.

Guelph got right back to work to start the second period as 20 seconds in, Zac Conroy fed the puck to his defense partner Noah Milne and Milne directed a shot on net.   Olan Norton scooped up the rebound and slammed it home for a 3-0 lead.   Just 14 seconds later, Guelph broke down on a 2 on 1 and Zac McKnight fed a beautiful pass over to Ryder Burns to send him in alone and Burns made no mistake, snapping the puck under the bar for a 4-0 lead.  With 2:39 left in the frame, Guelph took to the powerplay and Noah Milne once again fed a hard shot on goal that was scooped up by Olan Norton who deposited it in the back of the net for his second tally of the evening.   The score after two periods of play stood 5-0 in favour of the hometown Gryphons.

Guelph rounded out the scoring with 3:00 left in the contest when Tanner Bothwell forced a turnover in the Flamborough zone and Nathan Boyle scooped up the loose puck and broke in alone, beating the Flamborough goalie to make the score 6-0.

Alex Driscoll was solid in the nets, turning aside 9 shots to pick up the win and the shutout for the Gryphons.

Guelph (1-0-0) returns to action next Wednesday when they host the Garden City Falcons.
