U15 AA Defeat Burlington Gold in Tri County Action
The U15 AA Gryphons hosted the Burlington Eagles Gold on Saturday night and after a rough start, rallied to earn a 5-1 victory.

The Eagles came out skating and hitting and had the Gryphons on their heels in the first period.  However, Gryphons goaltender Ale Gruosso came up with several key saves to keep Guelph in it.   Guelph eventually got on the board first as hard forechecking by Captain Tyler Chadwick led to a turnover that landed on the stick of Sam Savery, who quickly snapped it home for a 1-0 lead.  The lead was short lived as twelve seconds later, Burlington went on the powerplay.  It took just 8 seconds for Burlington to find the back of the net to tie the game.  The contest stood tied at one apiece at the first intermission.

Guelph struck for the eventual game winner 4:36 into the second period as Calvin Cahill picked up a loose puck off an errant Guelph shot on goal and snapped it under the cross bar at a seemingly impossible angle.   Koen Smith assisted on the play.   The Gryphons then broke the game open with two power play goals off a Burlington spearing double minor.  At the 12:03 mark,  Nathan Briggs fed the puck to a waiting Calving Cahill who potted his second of the contest for a 3-1 lead.  Just 12 seconds later, Guelph struck again as Koen Smith found the top corner off passes from Tyler Chadwick and Zac Conroy.  The score stood 4-1 after two periods of play.

Guelph closed out the scoring 3:46 into the third period as Zac Conroy snuck behind the Burlington defense and received a stretch pass from Tyler Chadwick. Conroy broke in alone and made no mistake as he snapped the puck in the top corner.

Guelph (5-1-0 overall, 2-0-0 in Tri County play) now take a break from league action as they travel to Waterloo this weekend to participate in the Waterloo Memorial Tournament.
