U15 AA Qualify For OMHA Championships
The Guelph Gryphons U15 AA battled their way to qualifying for the OMHA Championships on Friday with a thrilling 2-1 2OT victory over the Flamborough Sabres.

Qualifying for the OMHA Championships in Kingston April 8th to 10th had been the goal for the U15 team since coming back from their January break.   Despite being ranked 6th out of 7 teams in their division,  the Gryphons battled and scrapped their way to victory night in and night out on their way to a 9-3 record, a first place standing in round robin qualifying, and a spot in the Tri County Semi Finals.

With a berth to Kingston on the line,  the Gryphons came out against a strong Flamborough team that was on their own run, coming off an overtime victory in a sudden death tie breaker on Wednesday night.

Flamborough opened the scoring on the powerplay with 3:23 remaining in the first period.   The one goal lead held up thru the remainder of the first period and into the second intermission.

Time ticked down in the third period and with 1:36 left,  Guelph pulled their goalie in a desperate attempt to tie the game.   Zac Conroy worked the puck down low into the Sabres zone, got the puck over to Sam Savery who got the puck towards the net where Nathan Briggs was able to get his stick on it and slip it past the Sabres goalie with just 1:10 remaining in the game.

Guelph had the momentum and controlled play in overtime, Finally,  5:33 into the second overtime period,  Addison Murphy-Rogers got the puck to Nathan Briggs in the slot.  Briggs' fanned on his shot, then quickly recovered and deflected the puck off the shaft of the Flamborough's goalie's stick and into the net for the game winner.

Guelph will now advance to the Tri-County Championship game against the Oakville Rangers Red at 4:30 pm at Appleby Arena in Burlington.
