Day 2 of the Huronia Tournament
Game 1: Gryphons at Owen Sound Attack.  0-4 Loss.  Game 2: Gryphons at Saugeen Shores Storm 4-1 Win.  Weekend = A lot of fun!

Game 1: Gryphons at Owen Sound Attack 0-4 Loss.

Owen Sound came out at the whistle, on the Attack with lots of body work.  The Gryphons were up for it, and took the hits in stride, doling out a few of their own.  Parker was hustling hard to keep shots from all angles out of his net - there were a lot!  The Attack poured it on through two periods, but the Gryphons were able to give it back just as well. It was a tense and fun first two periods, that ended 0-0.

The Attack must have had quite a tune up in the second intermission, because they came out firing on all cylinders to start the third, getting behind the Gryphon lines to change the tone and the score-line of the game.  The lesson for the Gryphons here was that the game is played through three periods, and they all count.  Something they took into Game 2 of the day...

Game 2: Gryphons at Saugeen Shore Storm.  4-1 Win

The Gryphons came out a bit flat to start the first, and Sergio saw a lot of puck, turning away everything that came his way.  A few minutes later found Guelph taking back control of the play, and getting on the scoreboard with a smart, on the ice shot from Nolan B from the point, which found the Storm keeper’s five-hole.  1-0 Gryphons.  A few minutes later, Cam made a nice play in front of the net to keep the puck from the Storm defenders, got a shot off, and Olin buried the rebound.  2-0 Gryphons.

The second period was a lot of the same, with the Gryphons getting the majority of the possession in the game, but just as it looked like the Storm might capitalize on a rush, Noah made a diving play in front of the net, knocking the puck out to the boards, halfway through the second.  2-0 Gryphons after two; Sergio still stopping everything, high, low, left and right.

The third threatened to start as we’ve seen with a few of these Gryphons games.  The Storm capitalized on some confusion in front of our net to make it 2-1.  But the Gryphons learned a thing or two against Owen Sound in the earlier game, and started turning things back our way (sparked by a big hit on Ty by Nolan S at centre ice).  David took this task very personally, and started knocking Storm bodies around in front of Sergio, separating them from the puck, and getting it off the boards and out of our zone.  About halfway through the period, with Seba knocking down Storm passes left and right to keep the pressure out of the Gryphons end, Jason decided to follow suit; he stole the puck and took it to the Storm net to bury it, giving a bit of relief that the third period wasn’t going to be easy for the Storm. 3-1 Gryphons.

With 2:30 to go, the Storm pulled the keeper, and got a PP, but the Gryphons patiently played pucks out of our zone time and again, until Jesse stole the puck at our blueline, held his patience to cross centre, and buried it right in the middle of the open net, from distance.  The Storm got one more shot off, and as he should in a solid game, Sergio got the last touch, steering away a slapper from the point as the buzzer sounded.  4-1 Gryphons final.

OVERALL, it was a great weekend, with the team going 2-1-1 on the ice.  The team learned to play together, and had a great time off ice; eating, swimming, and running around the Blue Mountain Village, staying out of trouble and being angels whose parents didn't have to worry about them.
