Exhibition Game vs Burlington Eagles Sat. Oct 30
A great three period game! The start of the game saw the Eagles soaring for the first few minutes, before the Gryphons flashed their claws.
Sergio was tested early in the game in net, and came out scrapping, especially on a wraparound, where he had to jam his pad hard on the post. From there, Seba won the face-off in front of Sergio, out to Jason, who released Will up the ice to fire a shot on net as Jason and Seba drove hard to get the rebounds; Jason popped it in on the second chance. 1-0 Guelph, end of 1.
Gareth started off a good streak for the Gryphons with some smart plays, including bringing the puck deep into the O-zone, drawing 3 Eagles players to him, and quick-stopping to put them on the back heel, and firing on goal; unfortunately the keeper got a glove on it, but soon after it popped out to Noah S, who took a nice rising shot from the point, which Gareth redirected out of mid-air between the Eagles’ keepers legs for the 2-0 lead.
A little later, Max showed his puck moving skills, off a great save from Sergio, finding Ty out of the gate, past centre. There was never a doubt that Ty would find the back of the net with his break; 3-0 Gryphs. Nolan S added the 4th as the Gryphs made a mess of the Eagles defence in front of their net; Nolan moved this way and that behind the net, and finally scooped in the wrap-around.
In the third, Will forced the puck out of the Eagles corner, up the boards, where their man was intimidated by Seba’s size, and gave it up to a rushing Jason who took a step and blasted off the keeper’s stick and in for a 5-1 lead. Centre-ice proved immediately costly for the Eagles as a Gryph defender picked up the face-off win, found Jason, who drove the net and popped in his HAT-TRICK goal, as he was falling to his left. Maybe 5 seconds between Jason’s hustle-hard goals!
Great game, Gryphs!!! 6-1 Final!
