Guelph Minor Bantam AE Team wins 50th annual Hespeler Olympic Rep Tournament!   Over the Christmas holidays, the Guelph Gryphons Minor Bantam AE team participated in the 50th annual Hespeler Olympic Rep Tournament.  The Gryphons finishing second in the round robin behind Northumberland who narrowly beat them 1-0 in a close battle. Guelph then faced Milton in the semi-final, winning the game handily 5-2.  This set up a re-match with Northumberland in the final.  The Gryphons jumped out to a 1-0 lead on their very first shift of the game and due to a amazing team effort never looked back.  Northumberland was only able to score on a 5-3 opportunity.  The Jr. Gryphons earned their  championship with a 3-1 victory.  Well done men!!!

This past weekend, the Guelph Jr. Gryphons Peewee AA team participated in the 45th annual Guelph Power Play Tournament.  The Jr. Gryphons completed the round robin at 3-1 finishing second in the group behind the Kanata Blazers. Guelph faced the Alliance leading, Woodstock Navy Vets in the semi-final, winning the game 4-2.  This set up a re-match with the Kanata Blazers in the final who handed Guelph their only loss in the round robin.  After falling behind 1-0, the Jr. Gryphons poured it on beating Kanata 4-1 taking the championship on home ice!  Thanks to all the families for their support throughout the tournament and especially in the final.  It was a great atmosphere at the W.E.R.C!  Well done boys!!

This past weekend, the Guelph Jr. Gryphons Peewee AA team enjoyed a fantastic time in Lake Placid NY.  The overcast skies, rain and even a bunch of snow Saturday night couldn’t dampen the mood.  The boys went undefeated in round robin play and then had a re-match vs. the New England Stars Premier team in the Finals, beating them again, 3-0 to capture the Gold Medal at the Can/Am Challenge Cup!  The boys and parents represented the City of Guelph incredibly and received many compliments from other teams and tournament organizers.  If this was your first time in Lake Placid or your third, this tournament was one for the books and one I think we will all remember for a long time!!  Well done boys!!

We left our driveways at 7:00am Friday morning and when the final buzzer sounded at 7:00pm Sunday evening, the boys were champs! Our team played hard through the round robin, defeating all three teams they faced.  Competition was stiff in the semi final and final games, but through hard work, grit and determination, the kids prevailed.  Thanks to the coaching staff for being positive, motivating and developing players the right way. Thanks to the parent group for creating and fostering an environment that is really fun to be a part of and thanks to the boys for all of your efforts. Fantastic!
