Minor Bantam AA wins Gold in Rochester
On the October 7th weekend, the Guelph Jr. Gryphons Minor Bantam AA team took part in the My Hockey Rankings Tier II Invitational Tournament, in Rochester N.Y.
The Jr. Gryphons began the tournament down a man, but Brycen was there to cheer on his teammates throughout. Guelph completed the round robin at 2-1-1 finishing 4th in the 9 team group. They earned their place in the Semi Finals vs the previously undefeated Carolina Jr. Hurricanes. In a very close game, the Jr. Gryphons came out on top winning 2-1, but, losing another teammate to a substantial injury, as Callum broke his ankle in two places late in the game. With a spot in the finals secured, the team rallied around their injured teammates as well as not having Clarke there, to play an incredibly disciplined game vs the Montgomery Blue Devils from Maryland, who they tied in the round robin, 4-4. With the score 2-1 for Guelph entering the 3rd period, the boys left it all out on the ice and played exceptionally well only allowing one shot on goal the entire period. The Jr. Gryphons scored with roughly 5 minutes left to secure the Gold medal winning 3-1! As the boys sang after the game, “Don’t stop believing”. For Brycen, Callum and Clarke.
