Atom AE Advance To OMHA Quarter Finals
The Atom AE Gryphons advanced to the OMHA Quarter Finals on Thursday night with a 3-1 victory over the Woolwich Wildcats.  The win ran the Gryphons' record to 5-0 and guaranteed a first place finish in the Qualifying Round Robin.

In a close match, the two teams battled back and forth to open the contest.  The Gryphons finally opened the scoring with 22 seconds remaining in the first period when Peyton Smith roofed a backhander to give Guelph a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.  Jackson Byard assisted on the play.

Woolwich tied up the score 2:29 into the second and the close match headed into the second intermission all tied up at one apiece.

Guelph struck for the game winner 4:52 into the third period.  Peyton Smith worked the puck over to Kenny Beynon after Caleb Davison won a battle for possession of the puck.  Beynon entered the Woolwich zone and ripped a wrist shot from the top of the circle thru the goaltenders' five hole.   The Gryphons then got some much needed insurance with 5:57 remaining when Caleb Davison received a pass out front from Milan Wilson and snapped it into the open cage.  Cian Duffy also picked up an assist.

Fraser Litchfield earned the victory in the Gryphons net.

Guelph concludes their round robin on Saturday when they head to Ancaster before beginning their Quarter Final series the following week against a yet to be determined opponent.
