Peewee AA's Eliminated In Semi Final Action

The Gryphon Peewee AA’s (3-0) headed into the Semi Finals on Sunday morning at the Ajax 5th Annual Break The Ice Tournament by facing off once again against their league rivals the Oakville Rangers Red (2-2).

This time it was Oakville's turn to emerge victorious as they skated off with a  4-1 victory to knock out the Gryphons.

Oakville struck early as just 3:04 into the contest a deflection off a Guelph stick found the back of the net to give the Rangers an early 1-0 lead.   Oakville added a second marker 3:31 later to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

Guelph controlled the majority of the play and generated numerous scoring chances in the second period but were unable to  find the back of the net during a scoreless second period and the game remained 2-0 in favor of Oakville after two periods of play.

The Gryphons closed the gap to one 3:09 into the third as Nathan Boyle banged home a rebound for his fourth tally of the tourney.  Line mates Tanner Bothwell and Matthew Stam drew assists on the play.   However, Oakville found the back of the net 4:05 later to restore their two goal lead and another tally late in the game was the final dagger to knock out the Gryph’s.

The Gryphons (3-1 in the preseason) return to action next Saturday when they face off against the Glancaster Bombers and the OMHA defending champion Aurora Tigers in exhibition play.
