The Peewee A Jr Gryphons had a November to remember! In their hometown Powerplay Tournament, the team went unbeaten through 6 games, taking home the Championship with 2 hard fought games on Sunday including a thrilling final win over Owen Sound with a score of 2-1. The following weekend the Gryphons headed to Michigan to suit up for Team Canada vying to take home the Nation’s Cup.
With back to back tournaments, the team persevered through injury and sickness, showing true grit and determination throughout the weekend. Through the round robin, the team faced fast skating opponents in the Tampa Bay Crunch, West Michigan Ice Dogs, St Jude Knights (Illinois) and Big Boy Hockey Club (Michigan). With a 3-1 record going into Sunday, the boys needed a big win against Team Ohio to help Canada secure the Cup. The game tested the will and determination of this very tired bunch who had enjoyed a Red Wings / Capitals game the night before. A lone goal in the third period secured the 1-0 win and these boys were able to hoist another cup, this time for their country!
Extremely proud of the boys (and parents) for enduring through 13 games in 11 days. Looking forward to a final regular season push and an exciting playoff run with this hard-battling group.
