GMHA Programming is Paused Effective Monday Until Further Notice
Dear Parents, Players, Coaches and Volunteers,
As many of you are probably aware the Provincial government, on the advice of our local Public Health Unit, today announced that Guelph will be moving to “Red” status in regards to the Covid-19 response framework.  These measures come into effect at 12:01 a.m., Monday, December 14th.  Based on this announcement the City of Guelph has also elected to close their recreational facilities.

As mentioned in our previous article this decision, coupled with the requirement to limit on-ice numbers to 10 individuals, means we have no choice but to suspend on-ice programming until further notice, effective midnight this Sunday, December 13th. The earliest we could be back on the ice (pending decisions by the City and ending the Red status after the minimum 28 days) is Monday, January 11th, 2021.

This is an unfortunate set of circumstances and we share your disappointment.  We wanted nothing more than to keep kids skating the entire season.  To take one positive out of this, our city has remained in Orange for much longer than most in our region of Ontario, so we were able to offer programming almost to Christmas. Thanks for all of your efforts to keep us running for as long as we have.

Obviously, there is the important issue of outstanding fees. At present we will not be issuing refunds and any outstanding fees will be handled as follows:

Competitive Development Program (a.k.a Rep):  You are paying by 8-week session.  At the commencement of the pause you will have completed 3 weeks of Segment 2.  Once we open up again we will continue back with Weeks 4-8 (which has already been paid for).  During this time the Board will agree on the length and cost of Segment 3, based on the time taken up by the pause, deadlines for removing city ice for the summer, etc.  On the off-chance we don't open back up, we would look to issue prorated refunds at the time of the normal end-point of our season (March/April).

U9 ADP: Your season was split into 2 separate segments. Segment 1 was completed, and Segment 2 has just commenced. Once we open up again we will continue back with Week 2 (which has already been paid for or at least a 50% deposit). On the off-chance we don't open back up, we would look to issue prorated refunds at the time of the normal end-point of our season (March/April).

House League (U9-18): Your season was split into 2 separate segments. Segment 1 has 1 week remaining, and Segment 2 was set to start in the first week of January.   Once we open up again we will continue back with the final week of Segment #1. The following week, we will begin Segment #2 (which has already been paid for). On the off-chance we don't open back up, we would look to issue prorated refunds at the time of the normal end-point of our season (March/April).

Skills Development 1, & 2: Your season was split into 2 separate segments. Segment 1 will be completed this coming weekend, and Segment 2 was set to start in the first week of January.   Once we open up again we will commence with Segment #2 (which has already been paid for). On the off-chance we don't open back up, we would look to issue prorated refunds at the time of the normal end-point of our season (March/April).

Skills Development 3 (U8): Your season was split into 2 separate segments. Segment 1 was completed, and Segment 2 will commence this coming weekend. Once we open up again we will continue back with Week 2 (which has already been paid for). On the off-chance we don't open back up, we would look to issue prorated refunds at the time of the normal end-point of our season (March/April).

Skating School:  You have paid an annual program fee.  The Association will try as best as possible to offer all promised sessions to the end of the year.  However, if we are unable to do this, the intent is to provide prorated refunds of unused fees accordingly at the close of the season.

If we all commit to working hard to obey local and provincial health regulations, limit gatherings, sanitize our hands and wear our masks, we'll help knock this region out of Red and back to Orange in January so our kids can get back on the ice to play the sport they love.  We can do this!

Until then, please stay safe and healthy and have a wonderful (albeit unique) Christmas holiday season.

Kindest and warmest regards

Dave Christiansen
