Rep Try-out and U8-U11 Prep Skates Updates
The next few weeks will be very busy with not only getting ready for back to school but unlike previous years, Rep Try-outs will be taking place in the fall, so a busy time of year will become even more busy for many hockey families. As was previously communicated, GMHA programming is allowed to start on September 7th and U11-U18 try-outs are mandated to start on September 10th. While there are variables related to venue capacities and other logistics that are still being worked through, here are more details related to try-outs and U8-11 prep skates to help families prepare for the coming weeks.Guelph Minor Hockey activities take place within facilities operated by the City of Guelph and The University of Guelph. COVID-19 policies and procedures vary by facility and continue to evolve and change as we move towards September 7th and the beginning of our programming. The policies can affect eligibility to enter, building capacity, on-ice capacity, dressing room capacity, and other aspects of our hockey programs. As such, the times, locations and groupings of programming are subject to change but every effort will be made to communicate any changes as far in advance as possible.
The try-out schedule for each of the teams has been shared with the Coaches and will be viewable at the following link.
Based on discussions with both The University of Guelph and the City of Guelph, players should expect to arrive dressed in their equipment. Try-out checkins will take place outside the arenas to prevent congregating and to ensure physical distancing protocols are followed. Limitations on the number of parents/guardians who can enter the facility will also be in place.
Player groupings will depend on facility allowances and for the number of players on the ice and will be communicated to registered families by email in advance of the first try-out session.
U8-U11 Prep Skates
The U8-U11 age groups will have a series of 4 prep skates to be held between September 7th and 12th. These skates are to help players get back on the ice and prepare for try-outs. No evaluations will take place during these skates. Dates and times for the try-outs for these age groups are available through the link listed above.
Again, specific dates/times and player groupings will depend on facility allowances for the number of players on the ice and will be communicated to registered families by email as soon as possible.
Co-ordinating the U8-11 prep skates, the try-out schedule and the previously announced U14/U15 Checking Clinics in such a small window has not been an easy task and is only made possible by the diligence of the GMHA staff and the partnership with The University of Guelph and City of Guelph.
This season's try-out cycle will be unlike any that we have experienced and will require patience and flexibility from all concerned. Despite our numbers challenges, we remain confident that we will be able to navigate the next few weeks successfully and safely and have rosters in place for the upcoming minor hockey season.
