The OMHA recently announced that
non-body checking hockey will be implemented at the “BB” level.
As part of this announcement, the
OMHA noted:
·
BB will be the only Representative category with no body checking
permitted.
·
Associations are not required to provide a Base category team to be able
to offer BB Non-Body Checking entry.
·
Player movement to access Non-Body Checking hockey is not permitted.
You can read the OMHA announcement HERE.
Guelph Minor Hockey has confirmed
our intent to follow this directive.
Specifically:
·
The
4th entry team at each age group will continue to be designated as
“BB”.
·
The
current tryout process will remain in place. Players have the option to enter
tryouts at AAA or AA. Player movement to access non-body checking hockey is not
permitted.
·
There
will be a process available for “BB” teams, once selected and finalized, to
apply to be considered for designation as “A” or “C”, both of which permit body
contact.
·
The
details of this process, and related criteria, are currently being determined
and will be provided shortly.
Additional Entry at U14
In addition to the above, Guelph
Minor Hockey has approved the creation of a 5th entry team at the
U14 age group. This team will also be designated as “BB” and will provide
additional rep hockey opportunities for players within the 2010 age group.
