The U16AA Guelph Gryphons had an action-packed weekend at the OMHA championships! They entered the competition as the Tri County Champions after a thrilling series against Halton that went into overtime and a shootout.
In their first game, they battled back to tie Glancaster 1-1. The Gryphons then faced off against Barrie in a rematch of last year's finals, securing a convincing 3-0 win and some sweet redemption.
Next up was a tough match against the top-ranked team, the Whitby Wildcats, where the Gryphons fell short with a 3-0 loss. But their record of 1-1-1 was enough to push them into the semifinals against the undefeated Halton Hills Thunder. It was a nail-biter of a game, with the Gryphons clinching a 3-1 victory, including a shorthanded empty-netter.
In the finals against the Whitby Wildcats once again, the Gryphons took an early lead but found themselves trailing 2-1 late in the game. With just 3 minutes left, they scored on a powerplay to tie it up 2-2, sending the game into sudden death overtime. Four minutes into overtime, the Gryphons seized the moment with a thrilling goal, clinching the OMHA championship in a heart-stopping 3-2 victory!
Congratulations to the players, coaches, and families on an incredible season and bringing home the Red hats! 🏆🎉
