The Guelph Minor Hockey Association (GMHA) is committed to supporting our players in continuing to play hockey in Guelph while also pursuing post-secondary education. As part of this commitment, we are proud to announce the
Claude Bisson Scholarship Fund, a $5,000 bursary generously provided by
Bisson Dentistry.
This scholarship is awarded to a graduating GMHA player who has demonstrated a commitment and dedication to hockey, leadership, and community/GMHA involvement while pursuing post-secondary education at the University of Guelph.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the Claude Bisson Scholarship Fund, applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. GMHA Participation – Must have been a registered player with GMHA for the past five (5) years.
2. University of Guelph Acceptance – Must have been accepted to and plan to attend the University of Guelph.
3. Leadership Qualities – Demonstrates strong leadership skills both on and off the ice.
4. Community/GMHA Volunteer Involvement – Provides evidence of giving back to the community/GMHA through volunteer work or initiatives.
5. Coach’s / Association Reference Letter – A letter of reference from a GMHA coach or an official from GMHA supporting the applicant’s leadership and dedication.
6. Educator’s Reference Letter – A letter of reference from a teacher or school official speaking to the applicant’s character and academic achievements.
7. Career Aspirations – A statement outlining the applicant’s future career goals and aspirations.
8. Scholarship Impact Statement – A section explaining how this scholarship will help them achieve their goals.
Application Process
Interested applicants must submit a complete application package including:
- A completed Claude Bisson Scholarship Fund Application Form (available on the GMHA website - link below).
- A personal essay (500-750 words) detailing how they have demonstrated leadership, community involvement, their future aspirations, and how this scholarship will help them achieve their goals.
- Letter of reference from one of a GMHA coach, bench staff, Convenor, or Board member.
- Letter of reference from an educator.
- Proof of acceptance to the University of Guelph.
Deadline for Submission
All applications must be submitted between April 1st, 2025 and May 9th, 2025 through the
Claude Bisson Scholarship Fund Application Form.
