The Guelph Gryphons U12 AAA team ended their regular season in Crystal Beach yesterday and, while they couldn’t find a beach, they did find the back of the net 5 times enroute to a convincing 5-2 victory. The win widened the team’s lead at the top of the standings and means they finish the 34-game season in 1st place in the OMHA’s West Division.
The squad of 2014-born players is proud of several of their accomplishments this season. Since November 10, the team went on a 22-game league unbeaten streak, going 20-0-2 through to the end of the season. This included winning their final 12 games to secure 1st place. Through hard work and team defense, the group allowed only 1.38 goals against per game, which was the lowest in OMHA U12 AAA hockey across both East and West divisions.
The Gryphons enter the OMHA playoffs in a group that includes the Burlington Eagles, Credit River Capitals and Grey Bruce Highlanders. Their first playoff game is on the road, visiting Credit River at the CAA Centre, on February 21. The team is seeking a return to the OHMA Championships for the third consecutive season. This year the champion will be crowned in Newmarket over the March 20-22 weekend.
