U7 Development
U7 Development is Guelph Minor Hockey's on-ice program for U7 hockey players (6 year old players).
In U7, the focus is on advancing the skating fundamentals learned in U6 and further enhancing players' skating abilities.
No hockey experience is required, but some skating experience is recommended.
Small Area Games (SAGs) are used to create a fun and interactive learning environment to develop individual skills. SAGs are competitive hockey drills done in a smaller-than-normal playing area, and are designed to teach players through the simulation of game situations. Drills and Small Area Games become more advanced than those in the U6 program.
Program Structure
The U6 program runs for 18 weeks from the end of September through to March, including a 2-week break over the winter holidays.
Each week includes 1 practice session (Saturday) and 1 game sessions (Sunday). This program typically wraps up the weekend before March Break.
Registration
The U7 program is open for general registration from mid-May to the end of June, then re-opens from August to September.
