NotesThe Guelph Gryphon Minor Atom Selects got
a HUGE win Thursday night over the Burlington Bulldogs. With March Break having
officially started, it was evident that the Gryphons were excited. The Gryphons
were able to translate that excitement into a high level of compete and hard
work on the ice. David Zarins opened the scoring for the home side but Burlington
answered right back with two quick goals.
Nathan Stam tied the game back up at 2
with a designed faceoff play him and Brendan Sanderson had been working on. Burlington
took the lead early in the second period, but the Gryphons had an answer. A
great forecheck by Seamus Heron created a Burlington turnover that lead to some
nice tic-tac-toe passing between Stam, Heron and Sanderson, which Sanderson put
in the back of the net to knot the game up, 3-3. With less than a minute
remaining in the second period Dylan Scattolon put the Gryphons back in front.
The Gryphons were fired up to start the third
and determined to not let this lead slip away. Zarins scored his second goal of
the game half way through the third period to put the home side up 5-3. With 4:30
left in the game, Burlington scored to make it 5-4 and put everyone on the edge
of their seats. The Gryphons proceeded to shut the door and played a solid final 4:30 to
preserve the victory. The Gryphons were short a couple players on D, but the
group of Nolan Mee, Joe Kosakowski, Quinn Post and Hayden Berwick were a
formidable group ready to outwork every Burlington player who dare venture into
the corners with them. Great backchecking and heads-up hockey players were made
late in the game by Liam Daniels, Riley Brodrick, Zach Polard and Seamus
McVitty to help preserve the one goal lead. Jarret Coady and June McCormick
shared the goaltending duties, both making big saves at times to help hold off
the Burlington attack. All in all, it was a complete team victory, great game
Gryphons!
Have a fun and safe March Break, our next
game is March 18th against Rosedale.
