The Guelph Minor Atom Select Jr. Gryphons travelled to Orangeville Wednesday night for a game against the Orangeville Flyers; in what was another entertaining game. The drive to Orangeville and delayed start to the game seemed to throw the Gryphons off, seeing Guelph fall behind 3-0 before the end of the first period. Guelph got on the board with a goal late in the second period from Riley Broderick, but Orangeville quickly responded to retake their 3 goal lead less than 30 seconds later.

A skirmish in front of the Orangeville net early in the third period that resulted in an Orangeville penalty seemed to wake Guelph up. They came out guns-a-blazing on the power play, controlling the play causing Orangeville to take another penalty going down 2 skaters. Guelph capitalized on both power plays scoring 2 goals a minute apart; the first by Dylan Scattalon and a second by Brodrick. From then on Guelph was pushing hard to tie the game up and had many chances as the third period went on. With 39 second left, they were finally rewarded for their hard work when Aydan McNaughton put home a loose puck to tie the game up at 4. Guelph managed a couple more chances in the dying seconds, almost taking the lead but had to settle for the tie, not a bad fate for a team who trailed for all but 45 seconds of the game. Goaltending duties were shared by June McCormick and Jarret Coady. Great no-quit attitude Guelph! Let’s carry this momentum into our tournament Friday. GO GRYPHS!!!
