U18 AAAs are Kitchener Blueline Champions!
Congratulations to your U18 AAA Guelph Gryphons on winning the 2024 Kitchener Blueline tournament!
In the first game on Friday, Guelph skated to a 4-1 win over the Sarnia Jr Sting. Next up was the Brantford 99ers where the Gryphons jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. As the game went on, Brantford was able to claw their way back to end it in a 3-3 tie.
In the first game on Saturday, Guelph played the Pittsburgh Preds. We jumped on them early and often to take an 8-0 win. Late game Saturday night was against the Eastern Ontario Wild. They showed well in their earlier games of the tournament and could be the test Guelph needed heading into the semis on Sunday. Guelph would out-shoot and out-play EOW and take a 4-2 win to end the round robin 3-0-1 and the top spot.
Sunday, early morning, semis vs the Upper Canada Cyclones featured a few high end scorers. The Gryphons would match that with their own and in the end take the win 6-3.
Off to the finals vs an OMHA rival, Halton. This wasn't the same Halton team that we played earlier in the regular season. They jumped out to an early lead and then popped 2 quick ones to start the 2nd period. Down 3-0, we knew we could eventually wear the goalie down and 2 mins later scored 2 of our own to bring it to 3-2. 3 shifts after that we scored again to tie it up. A long 3rd period stretched out to the final minute when Halton took a penalty. After a timeout and a great plan drawn up, Guelph worked it around the zone and scored with 49 secs left in the game to take the lead 4-3. That would be it and the U18 AAA Gryphons were crowned Blueline Champions!
Congratulations to all the players and coaches for an exciting win!
