U12 AE Jr. Gryphons – Staying Active!
The recent provincial shutdown forced many of our players, coaches, and teams to find innovative ways to remain active and engaged. Here is a great example of how the Jr. Gryphons U12 AE team stayed motivated and kept working despite the conditions...

During the 4-week pause the U12 AE team wanted to keep our players active. Our bench staff encouraged our players to get out to the outdoor rinks, entering the GMHA 5000 Shot Challenge, and the OMHA 10000 shot challenge. We also wanted to keep our players active in dryland and came up with a Dryland Challenge.

Our trainer, Bruce Alexander, set up a workout that would take the kids about 20 minutes to complete. The challenge was to try and get 3 workouts completed each week. We set up a Google Form where the kids could submit how many workouts, they completed each week. For each work out completed the kids would have their name entered in a draw to win a Team Canada Jersey.

We had Zoom meetings each week so the kids could chat with each other, and the coaches could give updates and see how the kids were doing with the challenge, along with some Trivia games.

In the end we had 145 workouts completed over the 4 weeks which was great to see! We have definitely seen the benefits of the kids keeping active over the pause in the first week back.

The ultimate winner of the Team Canada Jersey was Paul Metzler! Congratulations Paul and great work to everyone on the team for keeping active!
