The U16 AAA Gryphons are proud to share that they are sponsoring a child in Uganda in need of corrective surgery through the One4Another organization and their #1 Draft Pick program.
Last year, the team initially sponsored Sadala, a 13 yr old boy with a club foot and then additionally, Caleb, a 12 yr old boy with a broken femur. Based on their experience last season and seeing the positive impact that they made with both of these boys, the team enthusiastically wanted to participate again this season.
This year the team will be sponsoring Steven, who is 8 years old and has severe difficulties walking that could lead to limited independence later in life. Steven required an Achilles tendon lengthening procedure so that his feet can be in plantar grade position to begin to set him down the right path. Steven’s treatment has already begun and the team was thrilled to see his smiling face holding a group picture of the boys after practice.
The #1 Draft Pick program was formerly the 18th Man/Girl Project and was renamed to reflect the growing support for the program across a number of other sports. To learn more about the #1 Draft Pick program, please visit one4anotherintl.ca.
