Novice AA Fall To Flyers in Nailbiter
The Novice AA Gryphons gave one of their best efforts of the year but were on the wrong end of a 2-1 score against the 1st place Niagara Falls Flyers on Sunday afternoon at Victoria Arena.
Guelph came out and controlled the play right from the opening faceoff and their hard work resulted in the opening goal of the game at 9:11 of the first period. Tanner Bothwell's hard work along the boards resulted in a turnover in mid ice that was scooped up by Nathan Briggs who got the puck up to Koen Smith. Smith broke thru the Niagara Falls defence and a nifty deke left the goalie helpless as Smith deposited the puck in the back of the net.
The game remained 1-0 in favour of Guelph thru the end of the second period. Fourteen seconds into the third, Niagara Falls scored on the power play to tie up the game. Then, with 7:13 remaining, A Niagara wrist shot found the net for the game winner.
The Gryphs return to action this Thursday when they travel to Milton.
