Novice AA Open Tri County Playdowns With Shutout Victory
After being eliminated from the OMHA playdowns one day earlier, the Novice AA Gryphons travelled to Halton Hills Monday night to take on the Thunder in their first game of the Tri-County playoffs.
After a slow start to the game, the Gryphons found their legs in the second period and capitalized on some hard work in the Thunder zone to take a 1-0 lead. Matthew Stam was in the right spot at the right time and found the back of the net on the rebound off the opposition’s goalie. Landon Mitchell assisted. The Gryph’s held the Thunder to zero shots on net in the second period thanks to some great defensive play by the Gryphons rear guards.
Tanner Bothwell then potted the insurance marker with just under 7 minutes to play in the third period, again on a rebound scramble in front of the net, off a shot from Nathan Briggs to make the score 2-0 for the Gryphons. The Gryphons held off some late pressure by the determined Thunder squad in the final minutes of the third period to preserve the shut-out for goalie Alessandro Gruosso.
Final score 2-0.
The Gryph’s next game is scheduled for Saturday afternoon against the Flamborough Sabres.
