Minor Peewee AA Ground Flyers
The Gryphon Minor Peewee AA's used a quick start to propel them to a 5-2 victory over the Orangeville Flyers on Monday night in Tri County Bowen Division action.
Guelph jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just 3:04 into the contest as Tanner Bothwell continued with his hot streak as he banged in a loose puck out front of the Flyer goal. Olan Norton assisted on the play. Then with 2:35 left in the period, Norton responded with a goal of his own to make the score 2-0 in favour of Guelph after one period of play.
Orangeville cut the lead in half with the only goal of the second period as the Gryphons held on to a 2-1 lead after twenty five minutes of play.
Guelph went on the powerplay 9 seconds into the third period. Off the draw, the puck came back to defenseman Nolan Chabot who stepped in and ripped a shot inside the far post to restore Guelph's two goal lead. With 6:47 remaining, Olan Norton burst into the zone, faked pass, circled the net and came around and threw a wrist shot thru a screen to bulge the twine for his second tally of the evening to make the score 4-1 in favour of the Gryphons. Orangeville cut the lead to 4-2 with 2:33 remaining but with 1:04 left in the game, Matthew Stam came off the side boards and toe dragged, deked and danced his way by 3 Orangeville defenders before lifting the puck home for a 5-2 victory.
Ale Gruosso was strong again in his 10th consecutive start in goal as Parker Shany continues to rehab on the disabled list.
The Gryphons return to action on Wednesday night as they travel to Orangeville to take on the Flyers once again.
