Minor Peewee AA Punch Ticket To OMHA Semi Finals
The Guelph Gryphons Minor Peewee AA's have advanced to the OMHA Semi Finals after a 1-0 victory over #1 ranked Burlington Eagles Gold Sunday evening to take the series in an upset three games to one. This marks the first time a Gryphon team in the 2007 age bracket has made it through the OMHA Quarter Finals.
Coming off a humbling 7-1 defeat in Game 3 on Thursday night, the Gryphons stormed out of the gates in Game 4, determined to upset Burlington and avoid a Game 5.
The Gryphons got all the scoring they would need late in the first period as Guelph broke down the ice on a 2 on 1 break. Olan Norton quickly hit the Burlington line, forcing the Eagles defenceman to commit and then feathered a pass over to linemate Andrew McMillan who deked to his backhand and lifted the puck past the sprawling Eagles netminder for the game winning goal.
The fast paced game turned into a tight checking affair with Guelph being supported by several game saving stops from netminder Ale Gruosso, including a breakaway in the later stages of the second period. It was the second shut out of series for the son of Tony Gruosso.
The Gryphons now wait for their opponent in the semi finals to be determined. The Garden City Falcons currently lead the Tecumseh Shoreline Eagles two games to zero with Game 3 set for this Friday.
