Atom AE Take 2-0 Series Lead In OMHA Semi Finals
24 hours after their Game 1 victory the Guelph Gryphons Atom AE were right back at it as they hosted the New Hamburg Huskies on Friday night in Game 2 of their OMHA Semi Finals series. The Gryphons started quick and finished strong on their way to a 11-1 victory and a 2-0 series lead.
Guelph got on the board 33 seconds into the game as hard forechecking by Connor Laskowski forced a turnover that landed on the stick of Milan Wilson on the side boards. Wilson directed the shot on net where Caleb Davision tipped it past the Huskies goalie for a 1-0 lead. 2:22 into the period the Gryphons went ahead 2-0 as Kai Stone fed Peyton Markwood in front and Markwood buried it to increase Guelph's lead. . New Hamburg answered back in the last minute of the opening frame and the score stood 2-1 after one period of play.
3:56 into the second period, Peyton Smith took a pass in the neutral zone and out skated the New Hamburg defense and went in alone and sniped top corner to make the score 3-1. Peyton Markwood and Caleb Davision added tallies to make the score 5-1 after two periods before the Gryphons added six goals late in the third period to make the final 11-1 in favor of the hometown team.
Fraser Litchfield was strong in the Guelph net to pick up the win.
Guelph returns to action for Game 3 on Sunday night when they travel back to New Hamburg.
