The Guelph Atom Select Gryphons took part in their second annual Winter Classic Sunday, February 1st vs. the Waterloo Wolves. The cold weather didn’t prevent fans from flocking to catch the much-anticipated match. Special thanks to our guest referees Ray Scapinello and Bruce Murray, celebrity in-game announcer Mike Farwell, our grill-masters, the Waterloo Wolves, and everyone else involved, who made this such a fantastic event once again!

The Select Atom Gryphons continued their hot play at home with a 4-2 win in a much anticipated re-match against their rivals from Waterloo.  The team hit the ice with a tremendously positive attitude that they coupled with high energy to take it to the Wolves right from the first puck drop.

After starting the season with three straight road games, the Guelph Atom Select Gryphons finally made their much anticipated home debut, and they did not disappoint their fans! The home side came out flying, controlling much of the play for the first period. The Gryphons showed tremendous teamwork cycling the puck, activating the D with smart passes and working give-and-go passing plays, resulting in every player on the team finding their way on the score sheet. The Atom Select team took advantage of the PD day on October 24th to participate in team building activities at Victoria Road Recreation Centre. The action-packed day included two on-ice practices, construction of an enormous (12’ by 5’!) bridge out of K’NEX, a pizza lunch (from an anonymous donor), dry land training, cupcakes to celebrate a team member’s birthday and a swim in the pool. It truly was a GREAT team day! Thank you to everyone who helped to make the day so successful.

As most of you know, one of our own lost a precious family member recently after a long struggle with diabetes.  To commemorate the loss, the Atom select team and coaching staff wore Grey ribbons at Tuesday's game vs. Flamborough. Grey is the colour that represents diabetes awareness, therefore we chose the colour grey for the team to raise awareness as well.  The Atom Select team has also made a donation to the Diabetes Society in memory.
